The initiative began with the 2026 MITO Sundowner, an afternoon event at The Star Brisbane that brought together customers, supply partners and industry colleagues in support of the Mater Foundation and its work in cancer research, clinical trials and patient care.
With guest speaker presentations from Corey Oates, former Brisbane Broncos player and Mater Foundation ambassador along with Professor John Hooper, Senior Research Fellow at Mater Research sharing insights and inspiring stories. The guests also participated in a raffle, their own peddle power on a stationary bike, with proceeds, and donations, raising more than $38,000 — made possible by the generosity of everyone who attended, contributed, or supported the cause in other ways.
Building on the momentum of the Sundowner, the MITO team undertook a 100km ride from Brisbane to the Gold Coast, joined by a number of valued customers who rode alongside them in support of the same cause.
The ride extended the collective effort shown at the earlier event, reflecting the MITO team's and its partners' continued commitment to supporting the Mater Foundation.
In recognition of these efforts, MITO was named the 2026 Top Fundraising Corporate, marking the second consecutive year the organisation has received this distinction. The achievement reflects not only MITO's commitment, but the collective contribution of every customer, partner, and colleague who supported the initiative.
